Practical information

Venues, City Transportation and Accommodation

Participants in the conference need to cover travel to and from Copenhagen as well as accommodation on their own expense. Please see suggestions for accomodation below, including some negotiated rates for SLSA conference participants, reaching from relatively inexpensive accommodations to middle range and comfort hotels. General information for travellers is available via VisitCopenhagen, including information regarding public transportation.

Conference Venues and Transportation

The main part of the SLSAeu conference will take place from June 13 to 16 at the University of Copenhagen South Campus, close to the fashionable harbour front area called Islands Brygge, including bathing opportunties, as well as to the Christianshavn neighbourhood. If you travel by metro, the campus is close to the station Islands Brygge on metro line M1 (direction Vestamager). Metro line M1 connects to Nørreport and Kongens Nytorv, central hubs in Copenhagen city center (ca. 5-10'), as well as to Copenhagen Airport Kastrup (metro line M2, change at Christianshavn station. ca. 15'). Get off at Islands Brygge station which borders the campus site; after ascending the stairs, turn right on Njalsgade. Walk for about 5 minutes until you reach a water canal, and turn right. Our conference venues are located in buildings 22, 23 and 21, on Njalsgade 120, 2300 Copenhagen S. See campus map here.

Our evening event on June 14 will take place at Medical Museion Bredgade 62, 1260 Copenhagen K, located in the city center, just next to the Royal Palace Amalienborg. It can be easily reached from our main conference site by public transportation (metro/bus) or bike within 20-25 minutes. It is located a 10 minutes walk from metro station Kongens Nytorv (2 stations by metro from Islands Brygge), but you can also take the bus 1A there which stops just in front of Medical Museion (stop Fredericiagade).

On June 15 in the afternoon, we'll move over to SMK (Statens Museum for Kunst), the National Gallery of Art, Sølvgade 48-50, 1307 Copenhagen K, where our SLSA artists and thinkers are at the core of a 'GREEN FRIDAY' event with lectures, installations and performances.  The closest metro station is Nørreport (3 stations by metro from Islands Brygge) from where the walking distance is less than 10 minutes, or a short ride with bus 6A. Count 25-30 minutes.

On June 16 in the last evening, our curatorial partners from the Laboratory for Aesthetics and Ecology will propose an additional closing event with talks and performances at the Overgaden art center in the neighbourhood of Christianshavn, situated at Overgaden Neden Vandet 17, 1414 København. It is just next to the metro station Christianshavn (1 station from Islands Brygge) but can also be reached by a beautiful walk over Stadsgraven (the canal which separates Christianshavn from the rest of Amager) within 20 minutes.

Where to stay

There are many hotels in the center of Copenhagen that may be convenient in order to get to the conference venue at University of Copenhagen South campus. There are, however, less hotels close to the main venue in the Islands Brygge area itself. Public transportation is very efficient and quick. If you are not too far from a metro station wherever in the city, you should be able to reach the University of Copenhagen South campus within 30 minutes. Depending on your physical condition - and if you do not fear to cross the inner harbour bridge every day - another option is to benefit from Copenhagen as one of the most acclaimed bike cities. Many hotels offer bikes, and the electric white City Bikes are placed all around Copenhagen - one docking station is located precisely at Islands Brygge metro station on campus.

Be aware that Copenhagen in June is a very popular tourist destination, and that prices for accomodation can get up quickly. Of course, you may check as well the numerous private platforms to find accomodation.

We have prenegotiated rates for a limited amount of rooms with a series of partner hotels for different budgets. This does not mean that we claim that these are the best deals you can get. Especially in the middle range class it is difficult to book a large number of rooms in this season in Copenhagen, and you may be more successful individually. But the selected hotels have agreed to reserve a certain number of rooms at a preferential rate, and until a certain date, to our delegates:

Danhostel

Danhostel has several hostels in Copenhagen which are among the cheapest in town, while offering correct comfort in the low budget class. However, the one attractive for conference participants is "Danhostel Copenhagen City": Located right by the canal it is only a 10-15 min. walk to campus. In order to book a room at the best rate at Danhostel, you need to chose NON_REFUNDABLE which translates as a 10% discount. The sooner you book the cheaper the room will be. Please note that Danhostel offers a lot of different types of rooms: dormitories, shared rooms and shared private rooms. Make sure to pay attention to the type of room before finally booking it. If you are a group and ready to share a room, this will be possibly the cheapest option, while being close to the main venue.

Cabinn hotels

Cabinn hotels (Scandinavia) is a simple but centrally located hotel close to metro station Forum (4 stations to Islands Brygge), and close to the attractive inner lakes. Our negotiated rate is 549 DKK (ca. 75 €) per night (breakfast can be booked for an additional 10 €/person per day). If you want to stay at Cabinn Scandinavia make sure to book as soon as possible, and no later than May 1st. More rooms may be made available after this date, but this is not guaranteed and you will have to personally inquire. The hotel requires our delegates to fill in and send a specific reservation form. All relevant information can be found on this form.

Avenue Hotel

Avenue Hotel is a modern and very comfortable boutique hotel located centrally at the intersection between residential neighbourhoods Nørrebro and Frederiksberg. Five minutes walking distance to the metro station Forum (4 stops by metro from Islands Brygge), the lakes, Assistens Churchyard and 15-20 minutes walking distance to the central station. While the regular price is 1840 DKK (ca. 250 €), SLSA participants can use the block code 130618HUMKU in order to benefit of out prenegotiated rate of 1318 DKK (ca. 175 €)  per night including breakfast. These rooms are "single use". This means that an additional 27 € per night is charged for a second person. The current offer expires on April 3rd, the booking is to be made via the hotel's website.

Hotel Skt. Annae

Hotel Skt. Annæ is a 4-star hotel for those who want to live a very high quality experience, while being in the very center and close to the metro (Kongens Nytorv), located right next to popular areas such as Nyhavn, the harbour front, the Marble Church (Marmorkirken) and Kastellet (old fortress). The hotel proposes our delegates a few superior double deluxe rooms, breakfast included, at a special rate of 1995 DKK (ca. 265 €) instead of the regular rate of 2685 DKK (360 €) in this period, by using the code 1806KØBENH and send an email of confirmation to group@hotelsktannae.dk.

We are aware that the offer in the typical middle range is poor; the reason is that these hotels in Copenhagen are not offering discount prices for groups during the high season in Summer. You may indeed be succesful while trying centrally located hotels on your own, such as Downtown Hostel on the lower budget end, Wake Up Hotel in the middle range, or Hotel Ibsen on the upper end of the range, to name a few.
